North Carolina Integrated Math
Built for North Carolina.
Built with educators.
Coherent Math’s Integrated Math series was co-designed with Charlotte-Mecklenburg educators for North Carolina’s standards and classrooms. No adaptation or retrofitting needed. Today it is free, open-source, and in use in over 20 districts, charters, and private schools across the state, supported by our professional learning, assessments, and print materials.
Our courses help students build strong math skills and use them to solve real problems and make sense of their world. Now we’re bringing that experience to North Carolina’s new standards.
North Carolina’s new standards take effect in 2028. We’re building the next series now, with North Carolina districts at the table. Districts using the current series will be first in line for the new series and its co-design process.
Does your math curriculum do this?
The Coherent Math Integrated Math Series…
Centers Student Voice
Elevates student voice through lesson structure, student reflections, and student surveys, and purposefully encourages building a collaborative mathematical community.
Features Relevant Tasks
Incorporates relevant tasks that connect with local contexts and prompt students to engage with the world around them through mathematics.
Attends to Unfinished Learning
Includes optional daily “Bridge” activities to support students on previous grade-/course-level content pertinent to the lesson.
Provides Purposeful Practice
Supplies numerous practice opportunities through Checkpoint lessons and enhanced practice problems.
Embeds Language Routines
Integrates instructional and math language routines within the activities for higher use and success.
Emphasizes Mathematical Modeling
Embraces the expectation that students engage in mathematical modeling.
Integrates Professional Learning
Offers professional learning opportunities within the curriculum with prompts for teachers to purposefully learn, plan, and reflect
A Proven Partner
Coherent Math has worked alongside North Carolina educators to develop curriculum that reflects their standards, students, and instructional priorities.

Math 1
The first course in a three-course series, Math 1 builds on students’ understanding of one- and two-variable statistics, linear equations and inequalities and systems of linear equations and inequalities, coordinate geometry, and functions, while introducing students to exponential and quadratic functions and sequences. Through these studies, students investigate important real-world contexts, such as the United States healthcare system, wages vs. housing costs, and trends in population growth. Student Workbooks feature ample space to showcase student thinking, and Teacher Workbooks include embedded professional development and reflection opportunities.
Math 1 (Full Year) – The course is formatted to accommodate a full-year schedule of 45-minute lessons. There are approximately 150 lessons in total.
Math 1 (Semester) – The course is formatted to accommodate a one-semester schedule of 90-minute lessons. There are approximately 75 lessons in total.
Math 1 (with Foundational Supports) – This full-year course delivers all the content of the Math 1 Semester course, with additional time built in for responsive, just-in-time re-engagement with both prior- and on-grade skills and concepts. Through an innovative model that alternates between Math 1 days and Foundations days, students get extra support exactly when they need it to succeed in Math 1. The course is built around a full-year schedule of 80-minute lessons. There are approximately 150 lessons in total.

Math 2
The second course in a three-course series, Math 2 builds on students’ understanding of rigid transformations, congruence, similarity, probability, and quadratic functions, while introducing students to inverse variation and square root functions, function transformations, and right triangle trigonometry. Through these studies, students investigate important real-world contexts, such as local and non-local trademarks, global climate risks, and genetics. The course is formatted to accommodate a one-semester schedule of 90-minute lessons. There are approximately 75 lessons in total.

Math 3
The third course in a three-course series, Math 3 builds on students’ understanding of solid geometry, exponential functions, and statistical inferences, while introducing students to polynomial, rational, and trigonometric functions, inverse functions, and advanced algebraic solving approaches. Through these studies, students investigate important real-world contexts, such as income tax rates, escalating university tuitions, and access to healthy and affordable food. The course is formatted to accommodate a one-semester schedule of 90-minute lessons.

What’s Next for North Carolina?
Newly designed math curriculum options. Designed for North Carolina from day one.
Coherent Math is developing new math courses aligned to North Carolina’s updated standards, with materials planned for classroom use in the 2028–29 school year.
The curriculum will build on the approach at the heart of Coherent Math’s work:
- Connected mathematics: Lessons and units that build a coherent understanding of mathematics.
- Math that matters: Meaningful problems that connect mathematics to students’ lives and the world around them.
- Support for each learner: Opportunities for mathematical discussion, reasoning, and access to challenging work.
- Designed by teachers for teachers: Practical instructional guidance and resources that support everyday classroom use, co-designed by North Carolina teachers.
